Setting A Date

Fellow BC alum Shawn and I were drinking, discussing when to hold the reunion.
ME: If we had it near Thanksgiving or Christmas, more people would attend, as many would be in Wichita anyway.

SHAWN: Indeed. But it will be very cold at that time of year, and people have family obligations.

ME: If we held it at a warmer time of year, the event could be outdoors - a bonfire or something.

SHAWN: Yes, but it could rain, and all would be lost.

ME: Why would we have it Homecoming Weekend? Those football games were boring in high school and they're going to be just as boring 10 years later.

SHAWN: We can't drink at the football game.

ME: If I go an hour without a drink, I get the shakes - you know that.

SHAWN: And how. I'm blind.

ME: I'm wasted!
What say you, alumni? Would you like to meet on a warm, summer night? A crisp fall evening, such as Homecoming Weekend? Or would you like to meet when most of us will be in Wichita anyway, such as the Friday night after Thanksgiving?

Discuss your preference by clicking on "comments".

Near Thanksgiving or Christmas would be the best choice in my humble opinion. People may have family obligations, but with enough notice would likely be able to squeeze this in, and may appreciate using it as an excuse for a break from family. And as for the weather, impossible to predict regardless of the season. Just my thoughts, have a great father's day.

I say that there are too many obligations around the holidays. I would prefer something in the summer or fall (before we put on the holiday pounds).

For me the holidays would be better because I'll be in town anyway.

I would say definitely not Homecoming weekend. Because we live in Kansas you're eligible for bad weather whenever it is, so let's ignore the weather or the outdoors. Do we know anyone with a restaurant?

Labor Day weekend?

I'm glad you brought that up, Millie. That's a question I wanted to pose to the group: has anyone become independently wealthy since graduation? And if so, would you mind footing the bill for a fancy-pants reception hall?

I agree with Millie, definitely not Homecoming weekend. Not everyone would be able to come then and who really wants to see another h.s. football game? Around the holidays would be fine or sometime mid-summer when people tend to have more free time to travel.

does anyone know what happened to/keep in contact with Sean Bentz or Kim Junek? The alumni committee can't seem to track them down.

anytime but Homecoming weekend sounds good to me.

Oh yeah, that reminds me -- no French allowed at the reunion.

I am aware of Sean Bentz's coordinates, but if I told you, I'd have to kill you.

So is this going to be the sort of reunion where everyone gets together for a couple of hours one night to gauge their relative levels of success against one another and base at least some degree of their self-esteem on where their individual success falls in the larger picture of the graduating class of '97, or is this going to be a gig where there'll be all sorts of events over the weekend, a picnic on Friday night, some happy horseshit Saturday afternoon, some other happy horseshit on Saturday night and everyone catching up with everyone they want to?

I mean, let's do it over Thanksgiving. دلم برات خیلی تنگ شده

Well, Mr. Anonymous, you're getting ahead of yourself. I'll tell you what kind of party it will be in due time.

Oh, and no Arabic allowed at the reunion.

I know it's a lot to ask, folks, but if we could keep our comments in English, or at least a foreign language that Google can translate perfectly, that would be super.

Great idea, Dan. You are a credit to epidemiologists everywhere.

I think Labor Day and Memorial Day are pretty obvious choices, but I honestly wouldn't mind Homecoming either. I guess I'm the only one so far who didn't find football games boring?

Honestly Nikki and I don't care when it is, we live in Wichita and could pretty much make any date work. Dan- let us know if you need any help with any arrangements.

I noticed that Sean Bentz was in the last issue of the Alumni news letter so I am willing to bet Gomez knows where he hides.

Also, Brian Cartwright happened to tell me the other day about seeing Kim Junek somewhere at her work. I can't remember exactly where it was that she works, but Brian would know.

Around the holidays sounds good to me. I'd rather not have it during Homecoming weekend. I think fewer people would be able to come then since it's during the school year.

Dan, I'd be willing to help with the planning/arrangements as well if needed.

Are former teachers allowed to attend the reunion? Your class was fun!

I am in agreement with Mark...it doesn't matter to me. I also live in Wichita, and could make it. I just need to get a babysitter first :)

I vote spring or summer. Less busy than the holidays.... which are right around the corner now. If the final decision does end up being a holiday I would prefer Christmas since I will not be in town for Thanksgiving.
